Usage Procedure

1. Installation : Attach the Neoppi Grid to your hornet trap.

2. Choice of Attractant : To attract hornets, you can use a mixture of beer, sugar syrup, or wine. These attractants are very effective for capturing them.

3. Placement of the Trap :

* To ensure good capture of Asian hornets, it is essential to install at least three traps. They should be arranged in a triangulation around the area to be protected. This configuration maximizes the chances of attracting and capturing hornets before they get too close.  
 

* Positioning relative to the wind: Asian hornets follow the scent of the bait by moving against the wind. It is therefore important to install the traps taking into account the prevailing wind direction. Placing the traps facing the wind direction allows hornets to be intercepted before they reach the area to be protected as they will encounter the upstream trap.

* Safety distance: To avoid attracting hornets directly into sensitive areas (orchards, apiaries, terraces, schools, homes, etc.), traps should be installed at least 20 meters away. This distance ensures that hornets will be captured before reaching the area to be defended.  Place the trap in a strategic location, preferably around your apiaries or areas where you have noticed hornet activity.   


 Example of Trap Manufacturing

To make a hornet trap, you can use a plastic container:

1. Cut a 5L water container to the size of the Neoppi grid.

2. Secure your grid with screws (not supplied).

3. Add your attractant to the bottom and attach the Neoppi Grid to the opening.

 Trapping Periods:

From February to June: trapping of current year's foundress queens
From June to October: trapping of current year's workers
From October to December: trapping of next year's foundress queens. The ideal time to trap hornets is in spring and summer, when colonies begin to develop. Be vigilant and install your traps at the first signs of activity.

- Check Regularly: Make sure to check your traps regularly to remove captured hornets and renew the attractant if necessary.
- Avoid Pollination Areas: Place your traps away from areas where your bees forage to avoid attracting them.
